Information on Invocation 2010 – “Invocation 2010 (see www.invocation.org.uk) is a forthcoming national discernment weekend for young adults, which will be held in the grounds of St. Mary’s College, Oscott from 2^nd–4^th July 2010. This national festival is aimed at young men and women aged 16-35, who are looking to deepen their relationship with Christ, discern God’s will for their lives and at least open to the possibility of priesthood or consecrated life. New BBC Series Needs your Help – Rachel James-Bailey is working on a new BBC history series. The basic premise of the show is to present a social history of the UK through the home movie footage shot by the people. Rachel is really desperate to include a story about Pope John Paul II’s visit in 1982 and is eager to talk to anyone who might have home movie footage of the Holy Father’s visit. CAFOD Lent Fast Day – Friday 26^th February is the 50^th anniversary of the first ‘Family Fast Day’ and we thank you for all your generous and faithful support over the years. Most of us usually give up something for Lent like biscuits, wine or a big dinner on a Friday. This year we are asking you to consider linking your life to the life of someone living in poverty in the developing world, by giving the money you save to CAFOD. We will transform whatever you give up (like wine) into something desperately needed by someone else (like water). Thank you for the incredible response to the Haiti emergency appeal and for your support of CAFOD’s long-term development work through Fast Days.

Journey of Faith Programme in the Grimshaw Room, St. Chad’s Queensway on Thursday 18^th February 2010 at 7.30pm. The topic for discussion this week is ‘Praying the Eucharistic Prayer’

Friends of the Holy Land UK – This national charity was launched in St. Chad’s three months ago. The Parish is keen to start a FHL Parish Group to support the Christian Community in the Holy Land by raising awareness of the difficulties they are experiencing, encouraging prayers to be offered for their intentions and generating financial support to aid their well-being. One of the two patrons is Archbishop Nichols. At all Masses next weekend 20^th/21^st February, the FHL National Chairman, Dr. Michael Whelan will be speaking about their work and how you can help. Stations of the Cross for Lent – Commencing in the Cathedral on Sunday 21^st February and every following Sunday until 28^th March at 5.30pm.

Annual Mass and Procession of the Relics of St. Chad takes place on Saturday 27^th February at 12noon.

Confirmation and First Holy Communion – Bishop Philip Pargeter will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation at 4.30pm Mass on Saturday 22nd May. Adults, Young People or pupils attending non-Catholic Schools (year 6 and above) who wish to be prepared to receive the sacrament on that day should speak with Fr. Pat or Sister Therese, or contact Cathedral House Reception 0121 230 6209. Many thanks to those who offered to help prepare people for these sacraments. We meet on Saturday 13^th February in Cathedral House after 4.30pm Mass to discuss the programme. Year Three Pupils from St Chad’s Catholic Primary School will make their First Holy Communion on Sunday 20^th June.

Annual Mass and Procession of the Relics of St. Chad takes place on Saturday 27^th February at 12noon.

St. Chad’s Parish Lunch has been postponed – a new date will be announced shortly.

Confirmation and First Holy Communion – Bishop Philip Pargeter will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation at 4.30pm Mass on Saturday 22nd May. Adults, Young People or pupils attending non-Catholic Schools (year 6 and above) who wish to be prepared to receive the sacrament on that day should speak with Fr. Pat or Sister Therese, or contact Cathedral House Reception 0121 230 6209. Many thanks to those who offered to help prepare people for these sacraments. We meet on Saturday 13^th February in Cathedral House after 4.30pm Mass to discuss the programme. Michael Collins and friends organised a Concert on Sunday 27^th December at St Francis Club Handsworth with the proceeds (£1120) going to St Chad’s Cathedral Maintenance. Our thanks to Michael for arranging this fundraising event, to all who supported it, and to the staff of St Francis for the use of the club.
